Question

List out some strong and weak electrolytes?

Open in App
Solution

Electrolytes:

  • The substances which have the ability to conduct electricity in their aqueous state or also called molten state, are known as electrolytes.
  • Electrolytes are of two types; i.e Strong electrolytes and Weak electrolytes.

Strong electrolytes:

  • Strong electrolytes have the tendency to fully dissolve in the aqueous solution.
  • As electrolytes are completely ionized hence, are called strong electrolytes.
  • Example:NaCl(aq)(Sodiumchloride)Na+(aq)+Cl-(aq), CaCl2(aq)(CalciumChloride)Ca2+(aq)+Cl-(aq)

Weak electrolytes:

  • Weak electrolytes do not completely dissociate into the solvent.
  • As the electrolytes get partially ionized hence, are called weak electrolytes.
  • Examples: CH3COOH(aq)(Aceticacid)CH3COO-(aq)+H+(aq),NH4OH(aq)(Ammoniumhydroxide)NH4+(aq)+OH-(aq)

Hence, above mentioned are the list of some strong and weak electrolytes.
