Solution

Forest

Forest is a large area of land covered with herbs, shrubs, trees, and grasses and is home to many creatures. The functions of forests can be categorized as productive, regulatory, and protective.

Two regulatory functions of forests are:

  1. Forests maintain the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen between plants and animals.
  2. Forests regulate temperature and the water cycle. They increase air humidity by transpiring a large amount of water vapor into the atmosphere.

Two protective functions of forests are:

  1. Forests reduce the risks of floods by absorbing the water.
  2. Forests prevent soil erosion and drought. The roots of trees bind the soil particles and prevent erosion by wind and water.
