Solution

Radiation

  1. Radiation is defined as the energy which travels through space in the form of waves or particles.
  2. Hence, radiation is also a form of transfer of energy that does not necessarily depend on the presence of a medium.
  3. Radiation can be either ionizing or non-ionizing depending on the energy of the radiating particles or waves.
  4. Ionizing radiations are generally high-energy radiations, while non-ionizing radiations are low-energy radiation.
  5. There are mainly four types of radiation:
  1. Electromagnetic radiation
  2. Particle Radiation
  3. Acoustic Radiation
  4. Gravitational Radiation

Non-ionizing radiation example

  1. Radio waves
  2. Microwaves
  3. Visible light
  4. Infrared light
  5. Light from the sun
  6. Lasers

Ionizing radiation examples

  1. X-rays
  2. Alpha rays
  3. Beta rays
  4. Gamma rays
  5. Ultraviolet light
  6. Cosmic rays
