Corrosion:

• The spontaneous destruction of metals due to interaction with the environment or mainly Oxygen is called corrosion.
• The chemical interaction between the metals and their environment brings out the cause of corrosion.
• Mostly corrosion occurs when most of the atoms on the same metal surface are oxidized which causes damage to the entire surface.

List of methods for the prevention of corrosion:

• Choosing the right type of metal i.e Aluminum and stainless steel that is highly resistant to corrosion can prevent the corrosion and reduce the requirement for additional prevention measures.
• The cheapest way to control corrosion is by applying a layer of paint on the surface of the metal by which the coating of paint acts as a barrier and protects the metal from corrosion by preventing the flow of electrochemical charge.
• The control of the constituents of the environment to which the metal is exposed can also help in the prevention of corrosion i.e treating of water with softeners before putting it in a boiler to prevent corrosion inside the boiler.
• Prevention of corrosion can also be done by treating the metal surfaces with Phosphoric acid which forms an insoluble phosphate coating on the surface that helps in protecting the metal from corrosion.
