List some plants in which endosperms are absent in mature seeds.

Open in App
Solution

Endosperm:

  1. Angiosperm seeds include endosperm, a substance that protects and feeds the developing embryo (flowering plants).
  2. In some seeds, the endosperm is totally absorbed in maturity, and the fleshy, food-storing cotyledons feed the developing embryo.
  3. In a few plants such as gram, pea, and bean, the endosperm is absent in the mature seeds.
  4. These seeds are referred to as non-endospermous.
