• It gave a very small quantity of insulin which was not sufficient for treatment of patients.
• As the quantity obtained is less the insulin therapy becomes very costly.
• Insulin isolated from other sources such as pigs and cows, when used for treating diabetic patients, may cause allergic reactions.
• A protein from other animals may not be accepted by the immune system of the human body and recognise it as non-self which may elicit an immune response in the body.
