Question

List the disadvantages of renewable resources relative to the non-renewable resources.

Open in App
Solution

Disadvantages of renewable resources in relation to non-renewable resources are:

  1. Solar energy (Solar cooker) vs LPG: LPG is readily available at hand but the solar cooker is dependent on the sun. In the case of cloudy skies, a solar cooker cannot be used to cook.
  2. Wind energy vs Thermal energy: Thermal energy (coal) is available to produce electricity but wind energy is dependent on wind and its speed. Wind and speed are not reliable and constant.
  3. Hydro energy: Hydro energy can be harnessed only at the place where the water is flowing with constant force, which cannot be found everywhere. This is a disadvantage of hydro energy.

This is how alternate sources have disadvantages in relation to non-renewable sources.
