Question

List the factors on which pressure applied by a fluid depends?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The pressure applied by the fluid can be defined by

P=ρ×g×hwhere,ρdensityofthefluidgaccelerationduetogravityhdepthofthefluidcolumnfromthesurface

2. The pressure, thus, depends upon the following factors:

  1. Density of the fluid - Fluids having higher density exert a higher pressure than fluids having lower density.
  2. Depth of the fluid column from the surface - As the depth of the fluid increases, the pressure also increases. In other words, points that are deeper experience higher pressure.

3. Hence, the pressure exerted by any fluid depends on the density and the depth.
