Functions of the brain:

  1. The cerebrum in the forebrain is responsible for controlling intelligence, memory and sensory information such as speech, taste, sight, hearing, etc.
  2. The cerebellum in the hindbrain is responsible for maintaining the balance of the body and coordinating the muscular movements of the body.
  3. The medulla oblongata in the hindbrain controls the body's involuntary actions such as breathing, heartbeat, swallowing, vomiting, blood pressure, coughing, etc.
  4. Pons Varolii in the hindbrain helps coordinate the muscular movements of both sides of the body.
