The hypothalamus is a section of the brain that contains a number of small nuclei responsible for the production of many of the body's essential hormones. The hormones from the hypothalamus controls various physiological functions such as body temperature, fatigue, thirst, hunger, sleep, mood etc... There are two types of hormones secreted by the hypothalamus they are, releasing hormones and inhibiting hormones. Examples of releasing hormones are Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone, Thyrotrophin-releasing hormone, Somatotropin-releasing hormone and Adrenocorticotrophin-releasing hormone. Examples of inhibiting hormones are Somatostatin, Growth-inhibiting hormone and Melanocyte-inhibiting hormone.
