Combustion of fossil fuels like coal and petroleum gives oxides of carbon, hydrogen, sulphur and nitrogen as products.
Carbon monoxide and oxides of sulphur and nitrogen are poisonous and pollute the air.
Carbon dioxide is a green house gas which leads to global warming.
These oxides combine with the moisture present in air to form acid which comes down on earth as acid rain and cause damage to plants, animals, buildings etc.
