(i) Ammonia can be used as a refrigerant because of the following properties:
  • ​It is highly volatile.
  • It has high specific latent heat of vaporisation.
  • It is easily liquified on applying pressure even at room temperature.
(ii) Ammonia solution emulsifies fats, greases, etc. As a result, it can be used as cleaning agent for clothes, utensils, flooring, glass, porcelain, etc.

(iii) Ammonia is a hydrogen-bearing compound. Hydrogen is obtained from ammonia on heating.
