Question

List the teeth which are diphyodont and monophyodont in humans

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Humans have diphyodont teeth, two sets of teeth- milk teeth and permanent teeth. The reason is that the permanent teeth are too large to be fit into the mouth of the young children so they have milk teeth. And when their jaws mature their milk teeth are replaced by permanent teeth. So this is probably a matter of size.
Deciduous teeth are 20 in number (2 central incisor, 2 lateral incisor, 2 canines, and 4 premolars) and permanent teeth are 32 in number (4 incisor, 4 canine, 4 premolar and 4 molars).
Humans do not have monophyodont teeth.
