Solution

Electric Current

  1. Charges in uniform motion are called electric currents.
  2. Moving charges constitute an electric current.
  3. A current is said to be a steady current if it is independent of time, though it may vary spatially.
  4. Quantitatively electric current I is defined as the rate of flow of charge through a given surface in a conducting medium.
  5. Thus if dq amount of charge is transported in time dt through a given cross-section then electric current, I=dqdt.
  6. The unit of current in the SI system is the ampere A which is equal to 1C/s.

Electric Current at home

Three characteristic features of the electric current used in our homes are:

  1. Appliances to be connected in parallel.
  2. Each of the appliances has a separate switch to ON/Off the flow of current through it.
