An alloy is a mixture of different metallic elements in specific proportions especially to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion.

Characteristics of alloys are:

1. Alloys are stronger in strength than the metal from which they are made.

2. Alloys have the appearance, colour, and chemical activity different from their constituents metals.

3. Alloys have more resistance to corrosion than the metals they are made from.

E.g. Steel is an alloy of Iron and Carbon and is less corrosive than iron.
