Solution
Dear Student LPG is an odurless gas, hence in order to detect its leakage, a chemical substance called ethyl mercaptan (or ethanethiol) with the chemical formula CH3CH2SH is added. This substance has a very characteristic odour which can be very easily identified. So whenever there is a gas leakage, it can be easily detected due to ethyl mercaptan.
