Given, the magnet having magnetic moment M makes an angle θ with the magnetic field.

Then, the magnet having magnetic moment M3 makes an angle (90θ) with the magnetic field.

Torque τ1 acting on the magnet having magnetic moment M is,

τ1=MBsinθ

Similarly, torque τ2 acting on the magnet having magnetic moment 3M is,

τ2=3MBsin(90θ)=3MBcosθ

In equilibrium, both the torques are balanced.

MBsinθ=3MBcosθ

tanθ=3
