Solution

Let the side of the garden(square) is x m. Then the area is x² m².
The new length is (x+3) m and the new width is (x+1) m.

Then the new area will be, (x+3)(x+1) m².
By the given question, area is 19 more than present area
(x+3)(x+1)=x²+19
or, x²+3x+x+3=x²+19
or, 4x+3=19
or, 4x=19-3
or, 4x=16
or, x=4 m
Length of side=4m
