Magnesium is heated in flame for sometime before it catches fire and burns to form magnesium oxide with the release of large amount of heat and light energy. Is the reaction exothermic or endothermic? Explain your answer.

Magnesium burns easily in air to form magnesium oxide giving large amount of heat and light as it is a combustion process and magnesium is a combustible substance.Magnesium reacts with oxygen to give off heat and light so it is an exothermic reaction.
