Maize, sugarcane, jowar have two types of roots − those that grow underground and those that grow above the ground from the stem. What do you think is the use of these roots to the plant?
Maize, sugarcane and jowar have weak stems. Hence, the main roots help in absorbing water and other nutrients. The other type of roots known as the stilt roots, grow from the stem into the ground so as to provide extra support.
