Solution

Step 1: Sources of Energy

  1. We know that from the laws of thermodynamics, energy can neither be created nor be destroyed.
  2. It can change form from one form to another, therefore there exist many forms of energy.
  3. There are numerous sources of natural energy present on earth that can be harnessed by converting them into another form of energy.
  4. For example, in an electric cell, chemical energy is converted into electrical energy that flows in the circuit.
  5. This electrical energy is then again used to power another machine where it is converted to mechanical energy.
  6. Hence, the required work is done.

Step 2: Non-conventional energy sources

  1. Solar energy is utilized by trapping the heat and light energy received from the sun and converting it into electrical energy.
  2. Nuclear energy is harnessed when a radioactive nucleus splits into multiple lesser nuclei resulting in the release of a huge amount of energy.
  3. Ocean thermal energy can be utilized by harnessing the temperature difference between the water at the shore and in the middle of the ocean.
  4. Wave energy can be utilized by harnessing the kinetic energy possessed by waves when they hit the seashore.
