Solution

dear student,
a)When a pile of similar carom coins is hit with a fast moving carom coin, only the carom coin at the bottom of pile is removed, While other coins remain intact. This is because when the striker hits the lowest coins, they change their state of rest. Other coins remain intact due to inertia of rest, they tend to remain in rest.
b) The property involved here is "inertia of rest".
Inertia of rest is defined as the property by which a body tends to remain at rest, or a body in motion continue to move in straight line at a constant speed unless and until a force is applied to it.
