Acquit

  • If a person is being tried by the court for a criminal case, and the court finds that the person is not guilty of the crime then the person will be acquitted. The person will be set free, it is a case where the verdict of the court is in the favour of the person who was accused of a crime, and it was found that the person was innocent and the person was falsely accused.
  • The opposite of acquit is convict, where a person who is accused in a crime is found guilty by the court and the person is punished by the courts, in such a case it is said that the person is convicted.

To Appeal

  • If a lower court has already decided a case, and the petitioner feels that the verdict is not satisfactory, then as per law, they can petition a higher court to hear their case for a favourable verdict. For example if a person is unhappy with the verdict of the district court, the person can appeal to the High Court, if the person is again unhappy with the verdict of the high court, the person can appeal to the Supreme Court.

Compensation

  • If a person has suffered injuries or has unfairly suffered a loss, then the money given to the person to make amends is known as compensation.

Eviction

  • If a person is removed from the place where they are currently living or making their livelihood, then it is termed as eviction.

Violation

  • If the fundamental rights of a person have been infringed by another person, or by an organisation or by the Government, then it is termed as the violation of a person’s fundamental right.
