The process of coating iron (Fe) sheets with molten zinc (Zn) is called galvanization.
When the iron is left exposed to air it forms a layer of brown powdery mass over it which is known as rust. It happens because of the oxidation of iron.
Thus, zinc coating is applied over iron because zinc is more reactive than that iron hence reacts with moist air and forms zinc oxide and thus preventing iron from rusting
Therefore, the process of coating an iron sheet with molten zinc is called galvanization
