Solution

  • The formation of Zinc carbonate is a two-step process.
  1. First Zinc reacts with dil Sulphuric acid giving Zinc sulphate and Hydrogen.

Zn(s) + H2SO4 (aq) ⇢ ZnSO4 (aq) + H2(gas)

2. In the second step, this Zinc Sulphate reacts with Sodium carbonate to form Zinc carbonate and Sodium sulphate.

ZnSO4 (aq) + Na2CO3 (s) ⇢ ZnCO3(aq) + Na2SO4 (aq)
