Maleate ion is more stable than Fumarate ion. Why?
In fumaric acid, H of the oe acid group is very far from O of another acid group. Thus, no chance of H-bonding
Because of intra-molecular H-bonding, Maleate ion is more stable than Fumarate ion.
Thus, maleic acid gives up one easily to form a stable molecular ion. Thus, it is more acidic than Fumaric acid.
