Question

Man is running with the speed of 10m/s and finds the rain is falling vertically with speed of 20m/s. At what speed should the man run, such that the rain appear to him, at an angle of 370 with vertical.

Solution

Given,

The Speed of the man Vm=10m/s

The speed of the rain is Vr=20m/s

Angle=370

Vrsinθ=Vm

20×sinθ=10

θ=sin112=300

Now,

Vm=V

Vrcos300=R1cos370

Where R is the resultant.

20×32=R×45

R=2532

Now,

Vrsin300=Rsin370

20×12=2532×35

Vrm=101523=523
