Many times we experience dryness in the mouth. Explain the condition and reasons for the same.

Dryness of mouth:

  1. Dryness in the mouth is due to the inability of the salivary glands to produce enough salivary digestive juices.
  2. It causes a feeling of dryness in the mouth.
  3. Most of the time it is not a serious condition.
  4. Sometimes it is due to an underlying cause and requires treatment.
  5. It can lead to the decay of teeth and sores in the mouth.
  6. The reasons for the same can be as follows:
    1. Alzheimer's disease: Because their bodies' signals for thirst aren't as powerful as they used to be, people with Alzheimer's disease are more likely to not drink enough water.
    2. Stroke: If there is a blood flow issue, it may result in a stroke, which damages a portion of the brain.
    3. Yeast infection: Some medical problems, including diabetes, stroke, and oral yeast infection (thrush), can cause dry mouth.
    4. Diabetes: Dry mouth is frequently brought on by high blood sugar.
      1. However, there are other causes as well, such as injury to the nerves that regulate the salivary glands.
    5. HIV AIDS, etc: Salivary gland swelling brought on by HIV might result in decreased salivation and dry mouth.
      1. Saliva helps individual against illness and shields teeth and gums from plaque.
      2. HIV drugs may potentially cause dry mouth as a side effect.
    6. Habits of tobacco chewing and excessive alcohol use.
    7. In common cases, snoring with mouth open during sleep:
      1. Relaxed tissues begin to vibrate and produce harsh, recognizable noises.
      2. Because the mouth is open when snoring, it creates a dry mouth.
      3. Because our upper airways lack moisture in the morning, we may have painful throats.
