Solution

(b) Rs. 16000
Let us assume that the original salary of the man is Rs x.
Increase in it = 25%
Value increased in the salary = 25% of Rs. x
= Rs 25100×x = Rs x4
Salary after increment= Rs x+x4 = Rs 5x4
However, increased salary = Rs 20000
Then, Rs 5x4 = Rs 20000
∴ x = Rs 20000×45 = Rs 16000
Hence, the original salary of the man is Rs 16,000
