Solution

The correct option is B False
Lifting Power of Electromagnet - Ways to Increase Magnetic Field Strength | HVR MAG

Electromagnet

  1. When an electric current is used to induce a magnetic field, hence showing magnetic properties it is called an electromagnet.
  2. There are generally made up of a metallic core wounded by conducting wires.
  3. The current flowing through this wire generates the magnetic field.
  4. Due to the magnetic flux generated by this magnetic field, the metallic core acts as a magnet.
  5. Hence, the magnetic field disappears when the current flow is stopped.
  6. Therefore, the metallic core loses its magnetic properties and is called a temporary magnet.

Magnetic Field

If N is the total number of turns and I is the current passing through the wire, then the magnetic field is given as

B=μ0NI

Where μ0 is the permeability of free space,

We know that in the presence of a magnetic field, pieces of iron are attracted because iron is a ferromagnetic material in which the magnetic domains inside iron align themselves in the direction of a magnetic field.

Therefore, an electromagnet can attract a piece of iron.

Hence, the given statement is false.
