Solution

The given fractions are 39 and 58 . The graphs of these fractions can be marked using following steps:

Step 1: Marking 39 on the number line:

Since, 39 is a proper fraction whose value lies between 0and 1. To represent a proper fraction on a number line, we divide the number line between 0 and 1 into as many parts as the denominator of the fraction. Next, to mark the required fraction on the number line, move as many steps forward from 0 as the numerator of the fraction.

So, dividing the number line between 0 and 1 into nine equal parts and moving three steps forward from 0 to mark the fraction 39 on the number line.

Step 2: Marking 58 on the number line:

Again, 58 is a proper fraction whose value lies between 0 and 1. Therefore, dividing the number line between 0 and 1 into eight equal parts and moving five steps forward from 0 to mark the fraction 58 on the number line.. We obtain the final graph as:

Comparing the two fractions 39 and 58 on the above number line, we get

Therefore, 39<58
