Solution

Given that

Mary bought lace of length = 312 m
and lace used for new dress = 134 m
In order to find the lace left with her, we will subtract 134 m from 312 m.

We can express a mixed fraction as an improper fraction as (Whole×Denominator) + NumeratorDenominator.

312=3×2+12=72

134=1×4+34=74
The denomionator of both the fractions are different. So, to make it equal 72 will multiply by 22 to become 144

312134=14474=1474=74=134

So, 134 m lace is left with her.
