Question

Mass of a particle is 2 kg. Its displacement-time equation in SHM is
x=2sin(4πt) (SI Units)
Match the following two columns for 1 second time interval :

Solution

For the given displacement equation of SHM, we have

m=2 kg and x=2sin(4πt) and ω=4πf=2 Hz
Thus, in the time period of 1 s, the system completes 2 full oscillations.

v=dxdt=8πcos(4πt)

a=dvdt=32π2sin(4πt)

KE=12mv2=64π2cos2(4πt)

From the above equations, vmax=8π25.132

Thus, v can never be 30 m/s

In a single oscillation, v takes a value twice. Thus, v becomes +10 m/s for 4 times in 1 s

Similarly, KEmax=64π2=631.64

Thus, the mass attains KE of 400 J
In one oscillation, the mass attains this value 4 times. Hence, in 1 s, it attains 8 times.

Similarly, amax=32π2315.82

Thus, similar to velocity, acceleration also attains the value 100 for 4 times in 1 s
