Shorea is a genus of about 196 species of mainly rainforest trees in the family Dipterocarpaceae. Semi-evergreen forests are generally considered as a transitional stage between evergreen and moist deciduous forests. The tropical deciduous forests are characterised by evergreen trees mixed with deciduous having typical features like less dense canopy, frequent buttressed trunks, thicker and rougher barks, and heavy climbers. Wet temperate forests are found at altitudes of 1800-3000 m in the cooler and humid mountains.
