Solution

The correct option is A 1 - C, 2 - A, 3 - B
The variety and variability of different life forms in a particular area represents its biodiversity. Human activities like Habitat destruction, over exploitation of biological resources have resulted in biodiversity loss in various parts of the world. For the stability of the ecosystem conservation of biodiversity is necessary.

Conservation of biodiversity can be done using two different strategies as follows :
  • Ex situ (off site) conservation - Conserving life forms in controlled environments. Examples include botanical gardens.
  • In situ (on site) conservation - Conserving life forms in their natural habitat. Examples include biosphere reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
Biosphere reserves are protected areas of forest areas and human beings are an integral part of it. These are involved with protection and conservation of wildlife in their natural habitat. Biosphere reserves allow human activities under a regulated framework. There are 14 biosphere reserves in India.

National parks are protected areas, reserved for the betterment of wildlife, funded and maintained by the national government. They do not allow any human activity such as forestry, grazing or cultivation. But national parks allow a limited number of visitors for tourism, recreation purposes and research activities with permission. India has 90 national parks.

Wildlife sanctuaries are protected areas that focus on the conservation of animals or fauna in their natural environment. They allow human settlements and human activities like collection of forest products such as timber, food, tourism, research, etc. There are 448 wildlife sanctuaries in India.

Hence option a is correct.
