A mature Graafian follicle releases secondary oocyte (ovum) every month into the oviduct and the process is known as ovulation.
The secondary oocyte (ovum) is captured by the fimbriae and transported into the ampulla of the fallopian tube.

Millions of sperms enter inside the female reproductive tract. In order to fertilise the ovum, the sperm undergoes some biochemical changes inside the female reproductive system. These changes increase the ability of sperm to penetrate and fertilise the ovum and it is called capacitation.

After fertilisation the single celled zygote is formed. Zygote divides to form daughter cells called blastomeres. The embryo with 8-16 blastomeres is called morula.

Morula then transforms into blastocyst which further moves towards the uterus and gets implanted in the uterine wall. This is called implantation.
