If the unfavourable conditions in the environment are localised or temporary, then certain organisms move away temporarily in order to escape adverse climatic conditions. This is called migration.

The best example is the Siberian crane which migrates to India during the winter season when it is extremely cold in Siberia.

Suspend means to stop growth for a period of time when the conditions are unfavourable and growth resumes when the conditions become favourable.

Diapause is a state of suspended development, in response to unfavourable conditions, which is seen in zooplankton species. It is marked by reduced metabolic activity.

Aestivation is a period of inactivity and reduced metabolism to pass dry summers. Animals such as snails and fish go into aestivation.
