Tropical Evergreen Forests

  1. Also known as rainforests, they occur in regions near the equator and the tropics, and they receive a heavy rainfall throughout the year.
  2. Due to the absence of a particular dry season, trees in rainforests don't shed their leaves altogether, and this is why they are called evergreen.
  3. The tress in tropical evergreen rainforests grow close to each other, and they have thick canopies (tree cover at the top), so sunlight doesn't penetrate them and reach the ground even in the daytime.
  4. Important trees in rainforests are rosewood, mahogany, and ebony, and they are also called hardwood trees.

Tropical Deciduous Forests

  1. They are also called monsoon forest and are found in India, northern Australia, and central America.
  2. The trees there experience seasonal changes and shed their leaves in the dry season to save water.
  3. Hardwood trees found there are sal, teak, neem, and sheesham, and they are very useful in making furniture, transportation, and construction materials.
  4. Main animals found in those forests are tigers, lions, monkeys, elephants, and langurs.

Temperate Evergreen Forests

  1. They're located in the mid-latitudinal coastal regions and mostly eastern margins of continent.
  2. The important trees there are oak, pine, eucalytpus.

Temperate Deciduous Forests

  1. They are found in higher latitudinal regions like the north-east of the USA, New Zealand, China, and Chile.
  2. They shed their leaves in the dry seasons, and the common trees there are oak, ash, beech etc.
  3. Deer, wolves, fox are the common animals and the pheasant and the monalare common birds.
