The endocrine parts of the pancreas are islets of Langerhans that produce and secrete insulin and glucagon hormones. GH is the growth hormone, secreted by the anterior pituitary, which targets soft tissues and bones and serves to stimulate cell division, protein synthesis and bone growth. Calcitonin hormone, secreted by the thyroid gland in response to increased blood calcium level, stimulates the temporary reduction in number and activity of osteoclasts and thereby reducing the blood calcium level to normal. Epinephrine is secreted by adrenal medulla under the emergency condition to prepare the body for flight or fight response and hence is known as emergency hormones.
