The first excavated site of Harappa is situated on the bank of the River Ravi, a tributary of the River Indus, in the West Punjab district of present-day Pakistan. One of the most important centres of the Indus Valley Civilisation, Mohenjo-daro, is situated in Sindh of present-day Pakistan. Many other centres of the civilisation have been excavated in places like Lothal in present-day Gujarat, Kali Bangan in northern Rajasthan, Alamgirpur in Uttar Pradesh, and Mitathal in present-day Haryana.
