Solution

The impure hydrogen gas is passed through various solutions to remove impurities such as phosphine, hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, water vapour, sulphur dioxide, etc.

1. AgNO3 combines with PH3 present in the impure H2 gas and converts it into Ag3P.
3AgNO3+PH3Ag3P+3HNO3

2. Pb(NO3)2 combines with H2S and converts it into PbS.
Pb(NO3)2+H2SPbS+2HNO3

3. KOH combines with CO2 and converts it into K2CO3.
2KOH+CO2K2CO3+H2O
