Types of asexual reproduction:
(i) Binary fission: The parent organism divides into two halves, each half forming an independent daughter organism. Eg. Amoeba
(ii) Budding: An outgrowth develops on one side of the cell. It grows in size, gets separated and develops into a new organism. There is unequal division during budding. Eg. Yeast
(iii) Fragmentation: The parent body breaks into two or more pieces called fragments. Each fragment develops into an individual. They are found in algae (eg Spirogyra), fungi (eg. Rhizopus), bryophytes (eg. Riccia), pteridophytes, sponges, sea anemones and echinoderms.
(iv) Regeneration: It is regrowth in the injured region. They are of two types: epimorphosis and morphallaxis. Epimorphosis is the regeneration of the lost body parts. In morphallaxis, the whole body grows from a small fragment. Eg. Planaria
