Match the Column-I(Compound) with Column-II(Oxidation state of sulphur).

Open in App
Solution

A. Let the oxidation state of sulphur be x. Oxidation state of H and O are +1 and -2 respectively.
Therefore, 2×(+1)+x+3×(2)=0+2+x6=0x=+4
Hence, A matches with 4

B. Let the oxidation state of sulphur be x. Oxidation state of H and O are +1 and -2 respectively. There are 2 peroxy oxygen in this compound and hence, oxidation state for peroxy oxygen will be -1
Therefore, 2×(+1)+x+3×(2)+2×(1)=0+2+x62=0x=+6
Hence, B matches with 3

C. Let the oxidation state of sulphur be x. Oxidation state of H and O are +1 and -2 respectively.
Therefore, 2×(+1)+2×(x)+6×(2)=0+2+2x12=0x=+5
Hence, C matches with 1

D. Let the oxidation state of sulphur be x. Oxidation state of H and O are +1 and -2 respectively.
Therefore, 2×(+1)+2×(x)+4×(2)=0+2+2x8=0x=+3
Hence, D matches with 2
