At the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) of Philippines, IR-8 a high-yielding semi-dwarf rice variety was developed in the early 1960s. In November 1966, IR8 was introduced both in the Philippines and India which was formed by crossing Peta, a high yield rice variety from Indonesia, and Dee-geo-woo-gen (DGWG), a dwarf variety from Taiwan.
Taichung Native-1 is a semi-dwarf variety of rice found in Taiwan. Taichung native-1 was dwarf and resistant to blast.
Norman E. Borlaug at the International Centre of Wheat and Maize Improvement in Mexico developed a semi-dwarf variety of wheat. It was called Sonora by CIMMYT.
