Solution

The correct option is B (a)-(iii), (b)-(i), (c)-(v), (d)-(ii)
a) Human insulin is produced by genetic engineering. In this, the recombinant plasmid which contains the gene for insulin is introduced into the Escherichia coli using recombinant DNA technology. Escherichia coli then synthesizes human insulin in large quantity.
b) Rhizobium melitoti is a gram-negative Rhizobium bacterium. It contains Nif gene. Nif gene encodes enzymes involved in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen into ammonium compound and make it available to plants.
c) Bacillus thuringiensis is a Gram-positive biodegradable insecticide. It contains Bt gene which produces protein crystals which are toxic to insects.
d) Pseudomonas putida is a Gram-negative bacterium. It digests hydrocarbons of crude oil. It converts harmful organic solvents into nontoxic biodegradable composites.
Thus, the correct answer is '(a)-(iii), (b)-(i), (c)-(v), (d)-(ii).'
