Solution

The correct option is D a - iv, b - iii, c - i and d - ii

Sperm
Sperms are mature male gametes containing 23 chromosomes. They possess head, neck, middle piece and tail.

Head
The head of sperm contains an acrosome on the anterior side with enzymes that facilitate the entry of sperm into the ovum. It is followed by an elongated nucleus with haploid chromosome number (genetic material).

Middle piece
The middle piece has multiple mitochondria that provide energy for the motility of sperms. At the end of the middle piece there is a ring centriole (annulus) which serves as a stabilizing structure for tail rigidity.

Acrosome
Acrosome of sperm is derived from the golgi bodies and is present on the head. It releases its enzymes called sperm lysins during fertilisation to dissolve the egg membranes.

Tail
The tail consists of an axial filament surrounded by a thin layer of cytoplasm. It shows flagellar movement for the motility of sperm.

Final answer
(B) a - iv, b - iii, c - i and d - ii
