The Regulating Act of 1773 was one of the first attempts of British Parliament to control the affairs of the company's administration.

To create a seperate judicial organ in India, Supreme Courts were established in Calcutta, Madras (1801), and Bombay (1824).

The Supreme Courts functioned till 1862. Then, they were replaced by High Courts at all three places.
