Solution

Sri Lanka recognised Sinhala as its sole official language in 1956, allowing the majority Sinhalese to get preferential treatment, and this started a civil war in the country. Rajiv Gandhi sent troops from India to support the Sri Lankan government, which led to his assassination in 1991. The Sri Lankan civil war came to an end in 2009 with casualties on both sides.
