The flower is a reproductive organ of a plant. It consists of 4 different whorl i.e., calyx, corolla, androecium and gynoecium from outer to inner side.
Each whorl has the following specialised function :-
Calyx –Its unit is sepal. It encloses the inner parts of the flower and protects it at bud stage.
Corolla – Its unit is petal. Petals are bright colored structures which attract insects for pollination.
Androecium- It comprises the male reproductive organ i.e., stamen. It is made up of thin, thread-like filaments, which at its tip bear the anther. The anther produces yellow, powdery materials containing male gametes known as pollen grains.
Gynoecium- It is comprises the female reproductive organ i.e., carpel or pistil. It consists of three parts- the swollen ovary, a tube-like style and stigma at its tip. The egg or the ovule is present in the ovary.
