The architects of the Rajarajesvara temple built an inclined path to the top of the temple, to transport the huge shikhara that was to be placed there. A village near the temple is called Charupallam, meaning the “Village of the Incline”.

Huge gate pyramids called gopurams, a large structure at the top of the temple, right above the sanctum sanctorum called a shikhara, and pillared halls where several events were conducted. These are the features of the Dravidian style of architecture. Rajarajesvara temple is an excellent example.

Pitera Dura is an exquisite artistic technique which can be found at the Red Fort.

The Jama Masjid in Delhi is an excellent example of a building built using an architectural style called arcuate.
